Election Result 2022 : Votes were counted in five states - Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur - where assembly elections are being held. Except for Punjab, the BJP has been in power in all the other states. It is a high-stakes election in UP, which is dubbed as the semi final to 2024. Counting of votes began at 8 am.
The results in the four states seem to mirror the exit polls which forecast a a clear majority for the BJP in UP, and for the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab. Here are the developments.
- The BJP+ gained a good lead over the Samajwadi Party from the very first hour of counting and in the end crossed 260.
- Yogi Adityanath has broken a 35-year-jinx and come to power for a second term.
- In Punjab the Aam Aadmi Party headed to a landslide win. Its tally is nearly 90 out of a total of 117 seats.
- In Uttarakhand, the BJP has retained power, but CM Dhami has lost.
- In Goa, the BJP sought the help of MGK and Independents to form government.

Holi comes a week early for BJP
Holi came a week early for the BJP. The saffron party retainped power in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand , Goa and Manipur. In Punjab, AAP stormed to power with a three-fourths majority.
In Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath bulldozed a resurgent rainbow coalition led by the Samajwadi Party, and came back to power for a second consecutive term.
In Uttarakhand, the BJP was voted back with a slightly reduced majority. BUt CM Pushkar Dhami failed to make it to the assembly.
In Goa, the BJP emerged the single largest party but fell one shy of a majority. It quickly enlisted the support of MGK and 2 Indpendents and is set to form the government.
The only difference is in Punjab, where the margin of AAP's win astounded everyone.
PM Modi thanked women and young voters for the BJP's good show. In his victory speech he thanked women and young voters and said this win would probably indicate the 2024 outcome.

Aradhana Mishra opens Congress account in UP
Aradhana Mishra "Mona" of the Congress defeated her nearest BJP rival, Nagesh Pratap Singh alias Chhote Sarkar, by a margin of 14,741 votes from the Rampur Khas constituency in Pratapgarh district. Another candidate, Virendra Chaudhary, is leading against the saffron party's candidate from Pharenda in Maharajganj district by around 1,800 votes. The party had won seven seats in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

Akhilesh Yadav's brave fight falls way short
During the UP campaign, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav promised to send Yogi Adityanath 'back to Gorakhpur'. While the BJP threw a pantheon of star campaigners, Akhilesh was virtually the lone face of his Samajwadi Party.
From distributing tickets to choosing allies, it was the SP president's one-man show. He entered into a an alliance with a string of small regional parties.
He even contested his debut assembly election this time, picking Karhal, a segment in his father's Mainpuri parliamentary constituency.
Briefly, he outmaneuvred the BJP by inducting ministers Swami Pradesh Maurya, Dara Singh Chauhan and Dharam Singh Saini. That was an attempt to get the non-Yadav OBCs on his side. He also patched up with his uncle Shivpal Yadav.
In the end all his efforts weren't enough. The BJP is set to finish with a thumping majority when the last vote is counted.

Badals lose as AAP sweeps Punjab
In Punjab, former Punjab CM and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Parkash Singh Badal lost from Lambi seat by 11,357 votes. His son and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal lost from Jalalabad constituency by a huge margin of 31,500.
AAP's Gurpreet Gogi declared winner from Ludhiana West.
Sanjay Singh of Amethi is trailing behind SP candidate Maharaji Devi by 10492 votes. Maharaji Devi is wife of Gaytri Prajapati.

Results a setback to Congress: Sharad Pawar's sharp reaction
SHARAD PAWAR SAYS: These results are a kind of a set back to the Congress. The kind of administration that Kerjiwal has given in Delhi, the work done in Delhi has resulted in the AAP benefitting in Punjab. The Congress was in a good state a long time back however there was some internal decisions taken, in the last 6 to 8 months, I don't think the people of the state have accepted those decisions. Amarinder Singh was shunted out, and new people were brought in and it is being seen that this decision was not liked by the people.
